Omega 6
Omega-6 fatty acids are a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids which have in common a carbon-carbon double bond in the 6 position. The function of omega 6 fatty acids is largely mediated through interactions with omega 3 fatty acids. Research indicates that excessive levels of omega 6 fatty acids with respect to omega 3 fatty acids may increase the risk of disease. The typical western diet includes omega 6 and omega 3 fats in an approximate ratio of 10 to 1.
