The Power of a (Weight Loss) Deadline
by Keri DaviesMaybe it is just me…but I swear I meet the most interesting, fun and insightful people at the gym. Ok, so last Friday night I am in the gym. I know, I know a Friday night at the gym. What can I say… “It’s my Happy Hour.” I met a great lady. She and I kept making eye contact. I knew she wanted to ask me a question. I set my weights down and walked over and introduced myself. Hi, I said, “I am Keri. She replied, “Hi Keri, I am Donna and I want your abs.” I laughed and said, “Thank you. I appreciate your kind words.” Let me add Donna has a little bit of energy, laughs like Phyllis Diller and had me laughing so hard I was almost in tears. I asked Donna to tell me about herself and what her goals are…she said, “I am a 46-year-old female, and I am 60 lbs. overweight. I have maintained this weight for the last 10 years. My daughter’s wedding is in 9 months. Help! I need an effective diet. I believe I can lose the weight. However, I am afraid; if I follow a restrictive diet, I will look saggy. You hear it all the time, when people diet they lose water weight and muscle tone. This is exactly why I've always told my husband, I won't diet. Dieting will make me wrinkle and look old. Luckily for me, young looking women run in our family. My grandmother didn't look a day over 50 when she passed in her 70's. What is the best possible approach to getting the weight off, and keeping it off? My daughter is 25, and people often ask us if we're sisters. It makes her crazy. I hope I can continue to look young after losing the weight. What do you suggest?”
First, I would recommend getting a calendar and circling your daughter’s wedding day. This is your official deadline. Deadlines are very powerful. A deadline provides the ultimate finish line. Donna, you have only 9 months. Your daughter's wedding day is going to come and go. Ask yourself this, "How do I visualize myself on this very special, once-in-a-lifetime day?" Remember the importance of visualization. I suggest you put a picture, of what you want to look like, on the refrigerator. This is a powerful motivation tool. It works!
Second, because this is such an important date and you will want to look nothing less than spectacular... do not delay, you must begin today! A healthy, active, lifestyle starts now. This is not a diet! You are correct, diets only make us lose water weight and muscle tone. They are short-term programs and NOT the answer. Healthy, effective weight loss begins with resistance training, cardio vascular exercise, and healthy, nutritious, proper, portion-sized meals. You asked, "What is the best possible approach to getting the weight off, and keeping it off?" Begin thinking lifestyle, NOT diet.
I know weddings are a time of celebration. However, prior to the big day there are going to be a lot of necessary details that will require your attention. You, after all, are the mother of the bride. Incorporating a healthy, resistance training, and cardiovascular routine along with proper nutrition is going to help you not only lose the weight, but also combat the stresses of planning a wedding. Feeling stressed? Exercise! If you have the tendency to procrastinate and most of us do, you will want to invest in the services of a personal trainer. Personal Trainers are well worth the investment if you have never exercised, have not exercised in a while, or have a tendency to make excuses when it comes to exercise. If you need to lose 60 lbs. in 9 months, you must exercise! If you cannot afford a personal trainer, I highly recommend a workout partner. Cost?…priceless.
Lastly, 75-80% of weight loss is directly attributed to your nutrition. Remember the old adage, "You are what you eat." In an effort to get those stubborn pounds off and keep them off, I recommend you begin using Axis Labs Adipo-X. Adipo-X is going to maximize fat burning and strip away those layers of unhealthy, unwanted fat. With natural ingredients, it is going to maximize fat burning and strip away those layers of unhealthy, unwanted fat.
Donna thanked me immensely and said, “WOW Keri you sure don’t sugar coat things, I never thought of it like that…The power of a deadline.” The power of a deadline can be applied to just about anything in your life. Ask yourself this, “What have I been putting off?”
