The Power of a (Weight Loss) Deadline
by Keri Davies

Maybe it is just me, but I swear I meet the most interesting, fun and insightful people at the gym. Ok, so last Friday night I am in the gym. I know, I know a Friday night at the gym. What can I say. “It’s my Happy Hour.” I met a great lady. She and I kept making eye contact. I knew she wanted to ask me a question. I set my weights down and walked over and introduced myself. Hi, I said, “I am Keri. She replied, “Hi Keri, I am Donna and I want your abs.” I laughed and said, “Thank you. I appreciate your kind words.” Let me add Donna has a little bit of energy, laughs like Phyllis Diller and had me laughing so hard I was almost in tears. I asked Donna to tell me about herself and what her goals are, she said, “I am a 46-year-old female, and I am 60 lbs. overweight. I have maintained this weight for the last 10 years. My daughter’s wedding is in 9 months. Help! I need an effective diet. I believe I can lose the weight. However, I am afraid; if I follow a restrictive diet, I will look saggy. You hear it all the time, when people diet they lose water weight and muscle tone. This is exactly why I've always told my husband, I won't diet. Dieting will make me wrinkle and look old. Luckily for me, young looking women run in our family. My grandmother didn't look a day over 50 when she passed in her 70's. What is the best possible approach to getting the weight off, and keeping it off? My daughter is 25, and people often ask us if we're sisters. It makes her crazy. I hope I can continue to look young after losing the weight. What do you suggest?”
